Worldview

Starting
at the river
Abercorn charts its course
through the Historic District
Victorian District, into
Ardsley Park where 20th century takes hold
and on past bungalows of the fifties and sixties

Derenne marks the break
where past and present meet the world
to the right
across the intersection –
anachronistically into the sky – rises
the ‘world’ – a huge
newly painted steel sphere
strangely out of place and time

Beyond Derenne
welcome
to the 21st century
miles of shopping centers
auto dealerships, malls and malls
professional buildings, fast food on call

Venture far enough
and
The Abercorn Extension takes over
continuing on until it finally reaches I-95

You never know when or where you will meet the world.

We drove home sated with gaiety, family, friends and food Beyond the traffic noise lay stifling heat and the silence that tolls the end of summer hundreds of miles rolled by town by city Out the window ‘Korean War Conflict’ hung from the license plate of a passing van I thought of the young couple…
