Tomorrow Today

Sometimes
life smarts – well,
backward glances and
forward hopes perhaps

Examining – or not
what it means to live
a life “well lived”

Striving to shoulder
daily responsibilities, the
shoulds, oughts, musts – while
necessary – perhaps noble in some small way?

Sometimes in quiet
moments of reflection, it feels as if
the shouldering barged in a little too abrasively
declaring its needs the only ones

Crowding out the need to
(important also) nourish the soul

And while
there is always tomorrow
too soon it becomes today – yesterday

Sometimes one
has to push back – now!
before it’s too late: stop – STOP

The world will go on – long
after we are gone – long after
undone chores have been forgotten
